Last Tuesday, July 7, president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella ordered his vice president José Manuel Restrepo to suspend the merger process with the outgoing government. In his official message in X, he assured that “his duty is to protect and guarantee a serious, transparent transition at the service of Colombians.” After the decision, the ministers already appointed to the cabinet also spoke out and emphasized that “the work of collecting information for national integration” will continue.

During the morning of this Friday, July 10, Abelardo de la Espriella ratified “his respect for the independence of the central bank, legal security and institutions as pillars of confidence and economic stability in Colombia.”
“The vice president-elect and the designated ministers of Finance, Interior, Foreign Affairs and Commerce, Industry and Tourism participated in the meeting,” reads the official document of the political movement Defenders of the Homeland.
