The court session at the Tirana Court for the 19 protesters arrested after Thursday’s tensions in front of the Assembly has closed.
Two of the detainees were placed under house arrest, while the others were released.
After two interruptions, where the defense lawyers asked to see the files, the judges signaled the exit of the audience and retired to the consultation room for the decision.
It is reported that Everest Bardhi and Ervin Gega are the two arrested who will be called to stay under arrest, while the others are expected to be released.
In a statement to the media immediately after the end of the session, one of the defense lawyers clarified the scheme of security measures, considering it a partial victory, although he insists that the red-handed arrests were entirely political and illegal.
“For the 19 people arrested from the protest, the prosecution initially requested ‘prison arrest’ for 3 of them, and then changed its position, requesting ‘house arrest’ for one. For all the others, the measure of ‘compulsion to appear’ was requested. After long debates, the court decided that only two people should remain under ‘house arrest’, specifically the citizens with the surnames Bardhi and Gega,” declared the lawyer.
