The Embassy of the United States in Tirana has reacted for the first time to the citizen protest that today marked its 33rd day.
The American Embassy informs its citizens this Thursday that nightly protests are continuing in the Albanian capital in front of the Prime Minister’s building, which is located on “Dëşmorët e Kombit” Boulevard, between Skënderbej Square and Mother Teresa Square.
According to the announcement, the gatherings are expected to continue in the following days and could potentially extend to other cities in the country. The embassy points out that, although protests and large gatherings often start peacefully, the situation can change quickly.
The authorities warn that in the areas where the protests take place there may be an increased police presence, road blocks, traffic diversions and traffic difficulties, especially in the hours before and during the gatherings. Likewise, the extension of protests to the surrounding areas, including other government institutions, is not excluded.
The embassy urges American citizens and the general public to avoid demonstrations, be aware of their surroundings, limit distractions such as using phones or headphones in public places, and follow local media for updated information.
It is also recommended that citizens always have an emergency or exit plan and keep a low profile when moving through areas where there may be gatherings.
This is the time that the American embassy in Tirana reacts to the civil protests in the capital and its call comes after the strong clashes between the protesters and the police that happened today in front of the Parliament.
