Kelemen Hunor announces when the new Government could be voted on and sets conditions. UDMR wants to reduce VAT to 19%

The configuration of the future government structure enters a phase of maximum acceleration behind the scenes of the Parliament. Instead of negotiations prolonged and strategic delays, political leaders are now pushing for an extremely tight timetable to install a new team at Victoria Palace in record time. This procedural haste reflects the parties’ desire to quickly close the current political crisis, before instability affects macroeconomic indicators.

Emergency vote at the end of the week

The action plan advanced at the highest level aims to convene the plenary meeting at an atypical time for ordinary parliamentary activity. It is desired to avoid any bureaucratic blockages, and the political decision would be formalized by the vote of the elected even before the official start of the new work week.

The president UDMR, Kelemen Hunorpenciled in the exact timing of the investiture, indicating that the formula of a Cabinet made up exclusively of social democrats is the main option of the moment.

“Sunday or Monday”, was the Hungarian leader’s short answer to the question of when the new Government will be voted on.

Later, he elaborated on his desire to complete the procedures from legislativeemphasizing the urgency of completing the political discussions scheduled for the next few hours.

“Next Tuesday at the latest, but I would like to have a vote in Parliament on Sunday or Monday (…) Tomorrow there will be political meetings, not all the details have been established, but we all want to finish this stage and we will certainly meet to discuss.”

The protocol with PSD and recession warning

Beyond setting the dates for the vote, parliamentary support will not be given unconditionally. They are calling for the introduction of firm economic clauses in the future governing agreement, with the Hungarian leader warning that the lack of major fiscal corrections may throw the country into a major financial deadlock in the immediate future.

Kelemen Hunor considers it imperative to change taxes to stimulate local economic activity, placing this requirement directly in the equation of supporting the Monocolor Cabinet.

“From my point of view, yes. I don’t think it’s possible this year, but in 2027 we have to take it into account. Romania has an economy based far too much on consumption, until we manage to increase production, we can’t stay with a 21% VAT, it’s not productive at all.

From my point of view we have to go back to 19%, but I know it cannot be done overnight. It is necessary to take important economic measures.”

In support of this vision, the president UDMR points out that the documents signed now must ensure long-term stability, providing a clear perspective for the coming years.

“Me, when we were discussing supporting a monochromatic government PSDI think that all these economic elements exposed earlier must be introduced into protocol. Maybe not for 2026, but for 2027 onwards they should be included.

In 2027, another parliamentary agreement will have to be signed for this government, because otherwise it will not last.”
