Hasnat Abdullah, Member of Parliament for Comilla-4 Constituency. In July 2024, this student of English Department of Dhaka University came to the discussion through anti-discrimination movement. Born in a low-income family in Comilla, he came to Dhaka University to cover the cost of his studies, first through tuition and then started an online coaching center called School of Excellence. Hasnat Abdullah was a member of the now-banned student organization Chhatra League during his stay at Amar Ekushey Hall of Dhaka University. At that time, he was seen actively participating in various programs of the Chhatra League. Later he said that he was associated with BCL politics for the sake of survival. This is the main feature of his politics. Opportunistic, takes shape when needed. YouTuber himself understands the views for this. Do whatever it takes to attract people quickly. In the anti-discrimination student movement, Hasnat took to the streets wearing the number 10 jersey to attract everyone’s attention, so that everyone could recognize him easily. In this way, he became a big leader without making a significant contribution to the movement. Several leaders of the anti-discrimination movement have complained that Hasnat spends more time in the offices of various intelligence agencies and talking to leaders than in the field. Just two years of political life is full of contradictions. He talks about establishing his own rule of law, but Hasnat is known as one of the main masterminds of mob terror in Bangladesh after August 5. He himself spoke about the freedom of the press, and threatened him with mobs if he was criticized in the newspaper. He himself speaks against corruption, but there are endless allegations of corruption against him in the area. Mob terrorism is the main source of Hasnat’s politics. His main strategy is to occupy the political field by threatening the opponent. Awami League politics was banned because of Hasnat, and Hasnat went to Chittagong for his own interest and held a meeting with the banned Awami League leader. This is the character of Hasnat Abdullah, the controversial member of parliament. White outside, black inside.
On December 24, 2024, France-based news agency AFP published a story alleging that Hasnat Abdullah was involved in the case of five media workers working at Taham TV going to work together. Mohammad Hasan, director of City Group and Time TV, confirmed to BBC Bangla that a group of 15 people, including Hasnat Abdullah, went to their office and pressured some of them to be fired. However, Hasnat Abdullah admitted to going to Citigroup but denied being pressured. Later, when Hasnat Bahini threatened to implicate Citigroup in the murder case, they did not comment on the matter.
On March 21, 2025, Hasnat Abdullah tried to spread hatred in the society about the army, the symbol of the state’s sovereignty, with a Facebook post about the Bangladesh Army. This is a gross injustice and crime. But under the patronage of Yunus government, no action was taken against Lalit Hasnat. In view of the discussion surrounding this post, Netra News published a report. The comments of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the army were published there. In which it is said that ‘Hasnat’s speech is a collection of ‘extremely ridiculous and immature stories’. This is how Hasnat continues to spread rumors and intimidation. Any media is afraid to report news against Hasnat. Because, when the news against Hasnat is published, that newspaper is threatened by the mob tagging it as a friend of Awami League or a broker of India.
In April last year, Prothom Alo published a report titled ‘Hasnat facing many questions including luxurious life’. Protesting this title, Hasnat publicly threatened Prothom Alo on Facebook. He said, if you think you can stop Hasnat Abdullah by writing news from Delhi, then you are still in the wrong world. Prothom Alo deleted the news under Hasnat’s threat.
Hasnat once played Chhatra League politics, but now he is fiercely against Awami League. Using his movement, the interim government banned Awami League politics. Although openly opposed by Awami League, his communication with Awami League leaders and workers is an open secret. Hasnat made an agreement with ‘Awami Dosar’ to stop BNP in his constituency. BNP leaders complain that Awami League is now being rehabilitated here under Hasnat’s umbrella. Hasnat Abdullah paid a courtesy visit to Manjur Alam’s house in Kattli area of Chittagong on April 14, which is a big proof that Hasnat can co-operate with Awami League for his own needs. On hearing this news, some people gathered in front of Manjur Alam’s house in the identity of ‘July Warriors’. Later, when Manzoor Alam came out of his house, the crowd surrounded Hasnat Abdullah and asked him various questions. Some such videos spread on social media.
Some of them can be heard saying, Manzoor Alam ‘friend of Awami League’; Hasnat Abdullah himself is a July fighter, who stood in parliament and called for the Awami League to be banned; Then they want to know why he is at Manjur Alam’s house. To Abdullah. Later Hasnat’s close friends rescued him.
Hasnat is always seen speaking out against corruption. Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer of Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) southern region, met with Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Abdul Momen in April last year. Media workers Hasnat Abdullah said, ‘We have come to the Anti-Corruption Commission with some complaints. We have given our complaints in writing.’
Asked about the complaint, Hasnat Abdullah said, ‘very confidential’. Hasnat said, “It is very confidential,” without giving a direct answer to the question against whom the complaint was made. Now if you tell confidential matter then it will not be confidential anymore. Apart from that, the criminals will be alerted.’ Later it was revealed that behind Hasnat’s going to ACC was a big extortion plan. An ultimatum was filed against a particular industrial group for corruption, during which the industrial group went abroad with huge sums of money from the Hasnats. What happened to Hasnat’s complaint? When asked, an ACC official said on condition of anonymity that they withdrew the complaint after a few days.
Hasnat has been a Member of Parliament for only three months. Meanwhile, allegations of corruption and nepotism have been raised against him in the area.

According to them, local NCP leaders have embezzled this money.
Hasnat Abdullah could not give a transparent account of 12 crore 80 lakhs of flood in 2024. At that time money was taken from the people to help the flood victims, but the relief was not distributed with that money.
In Debidwar Upazila, Barkamata Union, Premu village has shown the cost without installing any solar line. The solar light in front of Premu Government Primary School is the budget of Awami League local leader Rajeev Munsi. This is what Hasnat Abdullah claimed as his work. Where did the solar money go? Not one complaint of Hasnat Abdullah about the installation of solar lights in Debidwar, many complaints have been filed with the local people. There is no solar lamp in front of Mubarak Master’s house in Hossainpur Madhyapara. Even, there is no solar lamp at the junction of three roads in front of Hossainpur Central Eidgah Maidan at Nandibari Junction. Victims also said that the cadres of Hasnat Abdullah are threatening Facebook and local complainants.
Recently, at a BNP event, Comilla Zila Parishad Administrator Md accused the then two leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement who led the mass uprising of 2024. Mostak Mia. He said, ‘It is the leaders of the anti-discrimination movement who have discriminated’. Mostak Mia’s statement against these two leaders went viral instantly through various media. MP Hasnat Abdullah spoke to the complainant Mostak Mia on the phone after this statement was aired. At this time there was an exchange of words between them. That conversation also spread on social media.
Comilla Zilla Parishad Administrator Mostak Mia said, “In the popular uprising of 24, dictatorship fell with the participation of students from all over the country including BNP. However, some student leaders created irregularities and discrimination during the interim government. This is Hasnat Abdullah. Outside, he talks about transparency, good governance and democracy. But inside he believes in muscle and mob. Use force to suppress dissent. Using social media to threaten critics. According to political analysts, Hasnat’s activities are reminiscent of the erstwhile Taher of Laxmipur, Zainal Hazari of Feni. Godfathers like Taher, Hazari have departed in politics, now a new godfather is being created?
