In an official statement released by the Prince’s Palace, HSH Prince Albert II said he and Princess Charlene had learned “with deep emotion” of the two powerful earthquakes that struck western Caracas, extending their “sincerest condolences” to the Venezuelan people. The Sovereign added that his family and the people of Monaco stood in full solidarity with those affected, while offering their “deepest compassion” to the bereaved families and the many injured.
The message comes as rescue operations continue across Venezuela after two major earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck just one minute apart on Wednesday. At least 235 people have been confirmed dead and more than 4,300 injured, although officials fear the final toll will rise significantly as emergency teams continue searching collapsed buildings for survivors.
Hospitals in the worst-hit areas, including La Guaira, have reportedly been overwhelmed by casualties and are facing critical shortages of medical supplies. Thousands of residents have also been displaced, with many spending the night outdoors amid fears of further collapses and aftershocks.
The Prince’s message reflects Monaco’s longstanding tradition of expressing solidarity with nations facing humanitarian tragedies.
