Chairlady of the Western Highlands Miss Bird of Paradise PNG Pageant Delilah Goni starts something at home that paves the way for the advancement of women and girls in Western Highlands
WE should not depend on others or demand anything good in return for what we do for them as individuals, says Delilah Gond
“Working under someone’s leadership doesn’t guarantee us to be the primary source or the main provider. We too must take up the responsibility, ownership and go out of our own way to give credit back to leadership where it’s due. “
Delilah Goni is one who firmly believes in creating opportunities for others. Here, she wants to share her personal experience as chairlady lady of the Western Highlands Miss Bird of Paradise Pageant. Delilah started off from scratch at home but through the small beginnings has given the global spotlight to the beautiful Western Highlands province.
Last year through her experiences, knowledge and her dream and vision, she created a national platform in Western Highlands, which was fulfilled be Governor Wai Rapa.
She said Western Highlands was the last province and after many months and repeated attempts of knocking on doors of businesses, and on the critical week, she had to directly call the governor.
“Governor Rapa had faith and trust in myself and fearlessly stood in as the major sponsor. Our governor always wants change for our beautiful province and this was of those changes that continues to have an impact on our young people, especially our women,” Delilah said.
“It is a legacy that will continue to live on for years to empower women in Western Highlands.”
It has been proven that anything the governor promises to do, he commits to it and Delilah Goni has never failed also with what she does. Both have strong faith and belief in what they want to achieve for the province. And they created history in Western Highlands last year when the province played host to the first-ever provincial pageant.
They will create history again when Western Highlands host the national pageant to crown a new Miss Bird of Paradise PNG this year 2026.
“Congratulations Western Highlands Province for creating history in the entire Highlands region and PNG as a whole,” Delilah said.
“Thank you Honourable Governor Wai Rapa for believing in the dreams a=and abilities of the younger generation in bringing about positive change, development and prosperity.
Thank you also for always being a champion of women empowerment by being a staunch supporter of women in Western Highhlands.”
Delilah also thanked the various sponsors of last year’s event including Hotel Kimininga, Delco’s Art, Theodist, Eco Tourism, Green Fren, Wantok Hardware Supplies and South Pacific Brewery.
“Thank you to all Western Highlanders for welcoming Miss Bird of Paradise Western Highlands and make the pageant event peaceful,” Delilah concluded.
