Bode Miller after arrest: “I didn’t know anything about it”

Olympic champion Bode Miller defends himself against allegations of drug possession. The former ski racer was arrested earlier this month for possession of psilocybin mushrooms. The 48 year old athlete pleaded not guilty to two drug possession charges.

He was stopped by the police on a highway in the state of Idaho, Miller wrote on Instagram. “My friend who was traveling with me had a small amount of cannabis and a cannabis pipe with him, which I didn’t know about,” he continued. “We cooperated fully with the police officer. I hope the misdemeanor charge will be dropped once the facts are reviewed.”

Sheriff: 4.1 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms found

According to the AP news agency, the court documents do not contain any information about the circumstances of Miller’s arrest. In a statement of suspicion, the deputy sheriff wrote that he found a white bag from a cannabis pharmacy containing 4.1 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms on Miller. According to the ABC broadcaster, he was released on bail of 5,000 US dollars (just under 4,400 euros).

Idaho has strict drug laws. States such as Colorado and Oregon, however, have legalized the use of psilocybin for therapeutic purposes.

Miller’s risky and risk-taking riding style earned him six Olympic medals, including gold in the super combined at the 2010 Vancouver Games. He also won 33 World Cup races and four World Championship gold medals. He competed in his last big race at the 2015 World Championships in Colorado, when a serious fall in the Super-G stopped him.
