KABUL (Pajhwok): At least nine people, including three women, a child and a journalist from Al Jazeera, have been killed in Israeli airstrikes and gunfire in the Gaza Strip, according to reports.
Palestinian health officials said the casualties were caused by Israeli airstrikes and shootings across Gaza.
Reuters reported that an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood killed four Palestinians, including two women and a child. The attack completely destroyed an apartment and wounded several other people.
The report added that, in a separate incident, a woman was killed by Israeli gunfire in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza. Another Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis in southern Gaza killed one person and injured eight others.
It further said that three people were killed in an attack on the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, including Ahmed Wisha, a cameraman working for Al Jazeera.
Al Jazeera, in a statement, described Wisha’s killing as a “horrific crime” and said he was killed nearly two months after his brother, Mohammad Wisha, who was also a journalist with the network.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the attack and called for Israeli leaders to be held accountable for attacks on journalists. The organisation said nearly 300 Palestinian journalists have been killed since the war began in October 2023.
According to figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since the ceasefire came into effect in October last year.
