Like today, 11 years ago… when terrorism tried to strike the Egyptian street from Ismailia to Fayoum… milestones from the state’s battle against violence after the fall of the terrorist Brotherhood’s rule… and structural bombs in Al-Mamar Square, and treacherous bullets hitting a police corporal.

In memory of the security events witnessed Egypt On June 21, 2015, memory recalls one of the darkest periods in the country’s history, when the country faced a wave of Terrorist operations And the repeated targeting of security forces and public facilities, in light of the escalation of violence that followed the isolation Mohamed Morsi In July 2013, during that phase, the security services intensified their efforts to thwart plans aimed at destabilizing and disrupting state institutions, while several governorates witnessed separate incidents that ranged from targeting police personnel to planting explosive devices.

    Structural packages in Corridor Square

On June 21, 2015, explosives and civil protection experts in Ismailia Governorate were able to deal with a report of finding foreign objects in the vicinity of Al-Mammar Square, one of the most important vital squares in the governorate. By moving to the location of the report and imposing a security cordon around the area, it was revealed that there were two structural devices equipped with electrical wires and batteries near the railway club. The civil protection forces then succeeded in dismantling the two devices using a water cannon without causing injuries or losses. The security services began investigations to uncover the identity of those involved in their situation.

    Brotherhood

The incident highlighted the extent of the challenges facing the security services during that period, as reports of explosive devices and suspicious objects were repeated in a number of governorates, in an attempt to create panic among citizens and disrupt public life. These operations often relied on planting primitive or structural devices in vital and crowded places with the aim of exhausting security efforts and confusing the Egyptian street.

Bullets of treachery hit a police corporal

On the same day, Fayoum Governorate witnessed another incident when police corporal Mohamed Mohamed Fadel, aged 29, was injured after being shot by unknown gunmen while on his way to his workplace. The policeman was hit with gunshots in various parts of his body and was transferred in serious condition to Fayoum General Hospital to receive treatment, while the Public Prosecution began investigating the circumstances of the incident.

    Brotherhood

This incident was also not isolated from the security context that Fayoum was witnessing at the time, as the governorate was subjected during that period to a series of attacks that targeted police personnel, security installations, and electricity towers. Several attacks occurred at the same time against the security forces in the governorate, making Fayoum one of the hotspots of security tension during the year 2015.

    Escalation of terrorist operations

The years that followed 2013 witnessed a noticeable escalation in terrorist operations that targeted army, police, and judiciary personnel and vital installations in a number of Egyptian governorates. At that time, the country faced organized attempts to weaken state institutions and spread chaos, while these operations resulted in hundreds of casualties among members of the armed forces and the police.

In this context, the security services accused extremist organizations linked to the Brotherhood or allied with it politically and intellectually of inciting violence or providing a supportive environment for it during that stage, while judicial rulings were issued and many cases were referred to the competent courts in files related to terrorism, violence, and targeting state institutions.

With more than a decade having passed since those events, the events of June 21, 2015 remain witness to a stage in which the Egyptian state faced major security challenges, represented by attempts to target security personnel and plant explosive devices in public places, before the security services were able to thwart many of the plans and pursue the elements involved in them. These events also reflect the scale of the confrontation that state institutions waged to maintain stability and prevent the country from sliding into broader circles of violence and chaos.
