PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, Jun 19, CMC – The Dominican Republic’s flag carrier and largest low-cost airline, Arajet S.A has denied allegations linking the airline to illegally transporting a significant number of Haitian children to Chile.
“We assure you that all our operations have always been and continue to be conducted in compliance with current Chilean legislation, particularly the immigration laws and regulations of Chile and the Dominican Republic,” the airline said in a statement.
“We wish to clarify that Arajet has never operated charter flights between Port-au-Prince (Haiti) and Santiago (Chile), contrary to what some media outlets have mistakenly reported,” said the airline, headquartered at Las Americas International Airport near Santo Domingo.
The airline operates a modern fleet of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, connecting the Caribbean with destinations across North, Central, and South America.
Earlier this week, the Director of the National Migration Service (SERMIG) in Chile, Frank Sauerbaum, officially filed a complaint with the regional prosecutor’s office of the Central-North Metropolitan Area, on possible child trafficking flights between January and October 2025.
The Migration Agency submitted six documents alledging evidence gathered and claiming that that at least 12 adults, Chilean and foreign, repeatedly entered the country posing as chaperones for groups of two to 18 Haitian children and teenagers.
The complaint said that these individuals had no blood or family ties to the minors not did they possess the authorisations required by Article 28 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act and that several flights arrived under the guise of family reunification.
