The United Democratic Party is demanding the resignation of Home Affairs Minister Oscar Mira following a violent weekend that claimed multiple lives.
UDP Senator Patrick Faber named three victims in making his case, the first being Dr Bonilla, who was killed while his daughter sat in the back seat. Kiffer McKenzie, who was shot on Albert Street with his children in the car. And twenty-five-year-old Eric Nelson, allegedly killed for wearing the wrong colour shirt in the wrong neighbourhood.
“Minister Mira must go before he is completely impotent,” Faber said. “He has no agenda on fighting crime.”
Faber contrasted the current government’s response with past administrations, recalling that the former prime minister would swiftly address the nation after a “murderous weekend”. He argued that Mira’s silence and lack of visible action show he is unfit to lead the ministry responsible for public safety.
CEO in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rear Admiral Elton Bennett, told News 5 that minister Mira remains focused and is not distracted by what he described as ‘noise in the market’.
