“We conveyed the message that we are ready to meet with Putin at the G7 summit, because (US President) Trump and (French President) Macron will be there, that is, the Europeans plus America. I think this is a very good opportunity for everyone to meet together,” Zelensky told reporters during a visit to the Kiev-Pechoryan peninsula, where a fire broke out due to the strikes.
“Europe and the United States agreed, but Russia once again showed that it is not ready for negotiations,” he added.
In an open letter to Putin on June 4, Zelensky suggested a personal meeting and expressed the view that the war was increasing the burden on the Russian economy. In response, Putin stated that he saw no reason for the meeting and that the Ukrainian drone strikes did not pose an economic threat to Russia.
