The United States may soon restore sanctions against Russian oil, US President Donald Trump said. He explained this by the resumption of oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. The sea corridor will be fully opened on June 19, Mr. Trump said.
“Soon we will be able to do this (restore sanctions.—”b”), because oil is now being supplied. We lifted the sanctions because obviously we didn’t want to interfere with the supply of oil,” Mr. Trump told reporters (broadcast by CNBC on YouTube channel). Thanks to the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, world oil prices began to decline rapidly, the American president added.
In March, the United States issued a license that allowed countries to buy Russian oil and petroleum products on the world market. The US Treasury explained the decision by an oil shortage due to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. On May 18, the license was extended for 30 days.
June 15 Donald Trump stated on the resumption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This is one of the conditions of the peace deal that the United States and Iran entered into. The final agreement is due to be signed on June 19 in Switzerland.
