Dnipro tried to appeal the verdict

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the court did not change the sentence for a 77-year-old man for the rape of a seven-year-old girl who lived with him, and sexual violence against her eight-year-old friend.
The abuser of children received the maximum possible punishment – 15 years of imprisonment, reported in the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Law enforcement officers established that in 2023, a 77-year-old man lived with his grandson’s roommate and her seven-year-old daughter. A man from Dnipro repeatedly raped the girl when her mother was not at home.
In addition, he sexually assaulted her eight-year-old friend when she came to visit. The schoolgirl immediately told her parents about the experience, and they notified the police.
In June 2025, the court of first instance sentenced the 77-year-old man to 15 years in prison. However, he disagreed with the verdict and filed an appeal.
Now the higher court has left the sentence unchanged. The man was found guilty of two crimes – rape of a child under the age of 14 (Part 4 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code) and sexual violence (Part 6 of Article 153).
The prosecutor’s office explained that 15 years is the maximum possible punishment due to the age of the convict.
Information about him has already been entered into the Unified register of persons convicted of crimes against sexual freedom and sexual integrity of a minor.
Earlier in the Rivne region, the verdict received a man who in 2021 raped an eight-year-old neighbor by first treating her to sweets.
