US President Donald Trump said the naval blockade of Iran would remain in place after Tehran announced the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping.
“The Strait of Hormuz is fully open and ready for business and free passage of ships. However, until our agreement with Iran is 100 percent completed, the naval blockade against Iran will remain in force. wrote Trump on his Truth Social. According to him, “this process should go very quickly”, because “most of the clauses have already been agreed”.
The American president also announced that Iran has begun clearing the Strait of Hormuz of its sea mines with US support. “Iran, with the help of the United States, is removing or has already removed all sea mines!” Trump said.
On April 17, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that the Strait of Hormuz had been opened to all commercial ships for the remainder of the ceasefire regime between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah. At the same time, Tasnim Agency’s source in Iran’s Security Council said that neither the ships passing through the strait nor their cargo should be associated with the US and Israel.
Since the start of the US and Israeli military operation against Iran in late February, Tehran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump demanded the immediate opening of the strait, and after the refusal, the US imposed a blockade on Iran’s ports and coastline.
