The Hungarian duo of Boglárka Hári and Anita Sáfrány secured the gold medal at the World Ninepin Bowling Championship in Schwaz, Tyrol (Austria) with a historic record-breaking performance.
As the Hungarian Ninepin Bowling Federation announced Monday, the pair topped the field with a total score of 1,329 pins. The foundation for their triumph was laid by an outstanding team performance.
While Boglárka Hári knocked down 682 pins, Anita Sáfrány contributed 647 pins.
With this result, the two Hungarians not only crowned themselves the new world champions, but also shattered the existing world record.
Behind the newly crowned record-holders, the battle for the remaining medals was tight. The silver medal went to a duo from Germany, while the bronze medal went to the team from Croatia.
For the Hungarian bowling elite, this result also marks a place in the history books. While Boglárka Hári celebrated the first World Championship gold of her career, her partner, Anita Sáfrány, further expanded her record and can now call herself a two-time world champion.
“It was incredible to be part of this world championship title; we had been longing for it.
Based on recent results and my entire season, I was confident that Boglárka and I could make it onto the podium. But it is a fantastic feeling that we ultimately got to stand at the very top of the podium,”
explained Sáfrány.
After a tough competition, the duo of Gyöngyi Csongrádi and Dorottya Szalai-Bordács narrowly missed out on a medal and finished in fourth place. Things did not go as well for Cintia Bálintfy and Enikő Németh, who finished the tournament in 22nd place.
However, the title races in Schwaz are not over yet; the World Ninepin Bowling Championship continues through Saturday.
