A 15-year-old Petit Valley girl died on Wednesday after collapsing at her family’s home, and police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Amy Reverand, of Cassia Drive, Petit Valley, was pronounced dead at the St James Infirmary shortly after 5 p.m.
According to a police report, Amy’s mother, Maria Walcott, told investigators that around 3.45 p.m. her daughter complained of a headache. Walcott said she offered the teenager some soup to eat and, a short time later, Amy went to use the bathroom.
When checks were made, Walcott found her daughter lying unconscious on the bathroom floor.
Emergency Health Services personnel were contacted and responded along with officers from the West End Police Station.
Amy was taken to the St James Infirmary, where she was attended to by a team of doctors. She was pronounced dead at 5.15 p.m.
Police said there were no visible signs of violence on the teenager’s body.
During enquiries, Walcott told officers that Amy had been suffering from depression and had previously been evaluated for the condition. She said her daughter was not on any medication.
Investigators also discovered an electronic cigarette in Amy’s room. Walcott told officers she was unaware that her daughter had been using the device.
