KUCHING (June 12): Sarawakian singer Carrie Geres has earned international recognition after her music video Dayung Bidayuh (2026 Remix) secured the Bronze Crystal Award in the Best Music Video category at the VIMA Music Awards 2026.
The achievement places the Bidayuh-themed music video among the top winners in a highly competitive category that attracted entries from across Asia, with judging based on a combination of scores from global judges, fan votes, social media promotions, and peer voting.
According to the organisers, the Best Music Video Gold Crystal Award went to Borderline Personality Disorder by Late Night Frequency, while Thailand’s Nook Thanadon and OG Bangerz shared the Silver Crystal Award honours for Mia Moo Mae and Tamileh Gang, respectively.
They said Carrie’s Dayung Bidayuh (2026 Remix) stood out for its celebration of Bidayuh culture and identity, earning recognition alongside productions from regional independent music acts.
The achievement was among several successes recorded by Sarawak artistes in the category, with Hijau by Forest King Crew placing fifth, and Hey! Ga’un Asung Ku by Swaiv finishing sixth to receive Top 6 certificates.
VIMA in a Facebook post said this year’s judging framework was expanded to place greater emphasis on diversity, cultural representation and meaningful storytelling within music video narratives.
The organisers noted that all six winning acts will automatically qualify for the Best Music Video category in the second phase of the VIMA Music Awards, which is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026.
Founded in 2008, VIMA describes itself as Asia’s pioneering independent music awards platform, providing a stage for independent musicians and helping bridge the gap between indie artistes and the mainstream music industry.
Awards and certificates for the winners are expected to be presented from July 1 onwards.
