The cybercrime Legislation Implementation Handbook is not just another regional document, says acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga.
He told those at the meeting of the Pacific Islands Law Officers Network (PILON) Cybercrime subcommittee in Nadi on Monday that the handbook is a practical toolkit, a regional guide, and a testament to the region’s collective resilience.
“Fiji is proud to co-host with PILON, such an esteemed gathering of legal minds, all dedicated to a shared and vital cause: safeguarding our digital borders and strengthening the rule of law across our Blue Pacific Continent,” Mr Turaga said.
He said the historic effort would not be possible without the foundational collaboration between the Pacific Islands Law Officers’ Network (PILON), the Council of Europe, and regional partners.
“What began as a vision following the establishment of the PILON Cybercrime Working Group in 2016 has matured into a powerful, enduring partnership.
“At the heart of your gathering is a profound purpose: to formulate and draft the Cybercrime Legislation Implementation Handbook. This is not just another regional document. It is a practical toolkit, a regional guide, and a testament to our collective resilience.
“Most importantly, this handbook elevates Pacific voices. Through a rigorous, co-design process alongside global cybercrime experts, you are ensuring this resource is grounded in reality.
“By contributing real-world case studies, reviewing expert input through a Pacific lens, and sharing your lived experiences, you are creating something uniquely tailored to the context and capabilities of our island nations.”
