The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) reported on Monday, June 8, 2026 that it granted precautionary measures in favor of the Nicaraguan opponent Beyker Enrique Ferreti Hernández, in prison in Nicaragua since October 2022.
In its resolution, the IACHR explained that it granted precautionary measures for the benefit of Ferreti Hernández after considering that he is “in a serious and urgent situation, since his rights to life, personal integrity and health are at risk of irreparable harm in Nicaragua.”
Beyker Ferreti was convicted without evidence for the murder of child Teyler Lorío, 14 months old, who died after being shot in the head on June 23, 2018.
The minor’s father, Nelsón Lorío, rejected the accusation against Beyker Ferreti. Lorío assured that he is the third person that the dictatorship tries to involve in the death of his little one.
According to the IACHRthe young man — who participated in the social protests in 2018 against the Government of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo — has been deprived of his freedom since 2022 in the Jorge Navarro National Penitentiary Center, known as “La Modelo”, without access to medical care to treat health conditions.
Likewise, he would be subjected to physical attacks, threats, mistreatment and inappropriate detention conditions.
Dictatorship remains silent on the Beyker Ferreti case
For its part, the State of Nicaragua did not provide information to the commission, which is an autonomous entity attached to the Organization of American States (OAS).
After analyzing the factual and legal allegations, the Commission considered that the beneficiary would be held in inadequate detention conditions, in total lack of protection and in a serious and urgent situation of suffering irreparable damage to his rights.
The IACHR therefore requested the State of Nicaragua, among other requests, to adopt the necessary measures to protect the rights to life, personal integrity and health of Ferreti Hernández, as well as to guarantee that the conditions of his detention are compatible with the international standards applicable on the matter.
Along the same lines, the IACHR indicated that the Nicaraguan State must take measures to guarantee that the beneficiary is not subject to attacks, harassment, intimidation or acts of violence; and also report on the actions taken in order to investigate the alleged events that gave rise to this resolution and thus avoid their repetition.
