For two decades, Audi Hungaria Zrt. has been the main sponsor of Hungary’s top club, Győri Audi ETO Handball Club. The company and the handball club celebrated this milestone anniversary during the final home game of the current season—the match between Győri Audi ETO KC and NEKA—in an electric atmosphere at the Audi Aréna Győr.
Handball has been firmly established in Hungary for many decades and is one of the most popular and successful team sports in the country. Nowhere, however, is this passion more palpable than in the northwestern Hungarian city of Győr, where the sport forms a cornerstone of social and sporting life. Systematic youth development programs are already in place there as early as elementary school. Founded in 1904, the historic ETO club looks back on over 120 years of history and has long since developed into a globally recognized brand thanks to its consistent international success.
Since July 1, 2006, Audi Hungaria has stood by the club as a strong partner and main sponsor.
This long-term partnership has not only set sporting milestones but is also regarded in Hungary as a prime example of corporate social responsibility in action and sustainable talent development.
The team’s sporting record over the past twenty years is unparalleled—under the patronage of the automaker, Győri Audi ETO KC has become the undisputed flagship of national and international women’s handball.
During this period, the team won 19 Hungarian league titles, 16 Hungarian Cup victories, 2 Hungarian Super Cup titles, and 7 trophies in the EHF Champions League.
With these successes under their belt, the women’s handball team from Győr is also regarded internationally as the world’s most successful team of the past fifteen years. The club has played a key role in permanently establishing the city of Győr and Hungarian sports at the top of the European and global rankings.

The halftime break of the anniversary match provided a fitting setting for a festive ceremony right on the court. In a nod to the partnership’s shared beginnings, club president and handball legend Anita Görbicz surprised Audi Hungaria CEO Michael Breme with a symbolic jersey. This gesture recalled the signing of the first sponsorship agreement 20 years ago, when the company’s then-CFO had also received a jersey as a memento.
Another highlight of the event was the presentation of the newly established “Audi Hungaria Győri ETO Handball Youth Award.” The award went to 20-year-old young player Dalma Varga, whose athletic achievements were thus officially recognized. Michael Breme then personally performed the ceremonial tip-off for the second half.

“The twenty years we have spent together with Győri Audi ETO KC stand not only for sporting successes, but above all for shared values: commitment, team spirit, continuous development, and responsibility for young talent.
We are proud that Audi Hungaria, as the title sponsor and main sponsor, has been able to help lead Győr and Hungarian women’s handball to the top of the world,”
emphasized Michael Breme, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria.
“The partnership with Audi Hungaria, which has now lasted twenty years, has created a stable foundation for the club’s long-term and consistent development. Without shared thinking, shared values, and mutual trust, we would not have been able to achieve the successes of which not only Győr but the entire Hungarian sports community can be proud today,” emphasized Edina Fata, Managing Director of Győri ETO Kft., on the occasion of the anniversary.
Audi Hungaria and Győri Audi ETO KC intend to continue pursuing their shared vision in the future. The goal remains the long-term strengthening of women’s handball, comprehensive support for young talent, and setting standards for a successful symbiosis of sports and business.
