The Pope also left a strong appeal to change the attitude of the faithful, challenging them to “displace themselves” and to see returns to the faith or conversions in adulthood “not as an exception, but as a rule of the mission”.
In a clear warning against the dangers of excessive institutionalization, Leo XIV asked that parish and diocesan councils not be reduced to “mere bureaucratic formalities”, but rather used for a deep listening to the Spirit. The pontiff warned of the risk of routine imprisoning ecclesiastical life in rigid habits. “The spirit awakens vocations and unites them, sometimes causing agitation, debate and the search for new balances. Don’t be scared by all this; welcome it and enjoy”, he recommended.
Closing the meeting, to the echo of the crowd’s chants of support, Leo XIV urged those present to transform their lives through acceptance and kindness, as a way of dispelling collective fear. “Be, for everyone, like an open Bible”, he said, in conclusion, adding that love is the only language capable of making everyone feel at home.
