P.S.Y., known for the 2012 worldwide hit ‘Gangnam Style’is under investigation for alleged violation of the medical receipt law after receiving prescriptions for antidepressants from 2022 to last year without directly consulting a health professional.
According to Chosun, the South Korean singer, whose real name is Park Jae-sangwas transported for investigation on charges of receiving prescriptions for psychotropic medications remotely and having his representative receive the medication on his behalf.
On June 2, Seoul police announced that they had forwarded the files of a total of six people, including PSY, the professor at a university hospital who wrote the prescription, a manager and the singer’s manager, to the prosecutor’s office on probation for charges of violating the Medicines Law, the media reported.
Psychotropic drugs are used to treat sleep disorders and depression that are only allowed after the patient is diagnosed by medical personnel.
After the artist was accused, Psy’s agency, P Nation, issued a statement last August: “Receiving sleep medications through a third party, a specialized drug, was a clear oversight and mistake.”
“Psy has been diagnosed with a chronic sleep disorder and has taken prescription medications, with no third-party prescriptions involved,” it added.
“There have been cases where a third party received sleeping medication on their behalf, and the police are investigating the case. We apologize for the concern caused,” he concludes.
