Today, more than 14,500 high school students start taking the matriculation exams with the first optional external subject. This year, in accordance with the amendments to the Law on Secondary Education, three types of matriculation exams are being conducted for the first time – state matriculation, state professional matriculation and state artistic matriculation, reported MIA.
According to the data of the State Examination Center (DIC), a total of 14,587 students have registered for matriculation. Of these, 12,184 will take the state matriculation exam, 2,276 the state professional matriculation exam, and 127 the state art matriculation exam.
Taking the first external exam starts at 9 am. Students who have opted for the state matura will take a foreign language (English, French, German, Russian or Italian) or mathematics today. Candidates for the state professional matriculation exam will choose between English and mathematics, while students taking the state art matriculation exam will take a test in English or history.
The greatest interest is in the English language this year as well. A total of 13,208 candidates have registered for this course, of which 11,017 students are taking the state matriculation exam, 2,107 for the state vocational matriculation exam and 84 for the state art matriculation exam.
1,173 students will take mathematics, of which 1,017 are candidates for the state matriculation exam and 156 for the state professional matriculation exam, while 38 students who are taking the state art matriculation exam chose history.
Of the other foreign languages, French was chosen by 20 graduates, German by 52, Russian by seven, and Italian by two candidates.
The mandatory external exam in mother tongue and literature will be taken next week. Students taking the state matriculation exam will take the test on June 11, while candidates for the state professional and state art matriculation exams will take the exam on June 12, starting at 9:00 a.m.
The largest number of students, ie 9,810, will take Macedonian language and literature. Of these, 7,809 are candidates for the state matriculation exam, 1,875 for the state professional matriculation exam and 126 for the state art matriculation exam.
For Albanian language and literature, 4,199 candidates are registered, of which 3,834 are taking the state matriculation exam, 364 are taking the state professional matriculation exam and one candidate is taking the state art matriculation exam. 360 students will take Turkish language and literature, while five candidates are registered for Serbian language and literature.
According to the DIC, 5,713 students are completing high school education this year and all of them are taking the state matriculation exam. Out of a total of 8,629 high school graduates in secondary vocational schools, 6,353 opted for the state matriculation exam, and 2,276 for the state vocational matriculation exam. In art schools, out of 245 candidates, 118 will take the state matriculation exam, and 127 the state art matriculation exam.
About 2,500 testers and about 200 observers will be hired for the realization of the matriculation exams. The use of mobile phones and other electronic devices is prohibited in the premises where the examination is held.
Due to the lack of adequate space in some schools, part of the matriculation exams will be held in the amphitheatres of the faculties this year as well. The director of the DIC, Daniela Jovchevska-Mihajlovska, said that this year a larger number of schools asked for help in providing spatial conditions, while the rest of the exams will be organized in sports halls, halls and halls in their schools.
Today, the Minister of Education and Science, Vesna Janevska, and the Director of DIC will visit the Faculty of Economics at the University of “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, where the students from SUGS “Vasil Antevski-Dren” will take the matriculation exam.
