The Health Service has calculated last year’s costs for coffin transport for use in an answer in Inatsisartut.
In 2025 used the health service in Greenland DKK 888,443 for the transport of coffins. It is a total amount that includes both ship and air transport.
The public sector covers all costs for transporting the deceased if the person stayed away from home for examination or treatment.
Naalakkersuisoq for health Anna Wangenheim (D) provided the figure in her answer to a §37 question in Inatsisartut. The question was asked by Gerth Mikaelsen (N).
The Health Service also stated that the costs for the transports in question vary greatly from case to case.
In the starting point, the health service uses transport with Royal Arctic Line for reasons of price. If the relatives want a different solution than offered, they must pay the price difference themselves.
In addition, Gerth Mikaelsen would like to know what funerals cost in different places in the country. But according to the answer, there are no exact figures on that.
