“Mafia” was one of the series affected when Viaplay put the brakes on after the streaming service suffered financial problems.
It is based on real events during the 1990s, when the Yugoslav wars broke out and the Yugoslav state became dependent on smuggling for funding.
Peshang Rad plays Radovan “Jakov” Jakovic, the founder of a smuggling operation in Sweden. Katia Winter plays the police officer Gunn Thörngren, who is on his trail early on.
The series has been praised by the New York Times, among others. This fall it will premiere in Sweden on Viaplay and TV3. Before that, it will be shown at Way Out West.
“It feels significant that the series is finally getting to meet the Swedish audience,” says Peshang Rad in a press release.
