Sporting facilities like the recently refurbished hard court in Edinboro can play an important role in forging positive bonds between youths while lessening tension in communities says Minister of Health, Wellness, Environmental Health, and Energy, Daniel Cummings.
Minister Cummings, who is also the parliamentary representative of West Kingstown where the refurbished Edinboro hard court is located, pointed out that despite the importance of sporting facilities, this particular facility was built by the former New Democratic Party (NDP) administration but deteriorated under the Unity Labour Party (ULP) administration that governed the country between 2001 and 2025.
Speaking on June 1,2026 in Edinboro, Minister Cummings, said the communities of Edinboro and Ottley Hall have a significant number of young people with very little to do, and the re-establishment of such a sporting facility will go a long way to enhancing the quality of life, especially for these young people.
“You may not know, and some of us like to forget the rivalry that exists between…the two communities of Edinboro and Ottley Hall. We believe fervently that sporting opportunities like these can ease the tension and improve the living standards for a lot of these young people.”
