Geneva (Switzerland), June 7, 2026 (SPS) – The General Confederation of Peruvian Workers has joined the international campaign demanding the rights of the Sahrawi people, who are still facing the occupation of their lands, the displacement of thousands of people, and the denial of their right to free self-determination.
This came during a solidarity meeting held on the sidelines of the 114th session of the International Labor Conference of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva, which witnessed the participation of union delegations from various countries that expressed their support for Sahrawi male and female workers who joined the General Union of Workers of Saguia El Hamra and Oued Eddahab (UGTSARIO).

The organization indicated that the occupation of Western Sahara caused serious violations of political, social, economic and labor rights, affecting entire generations of Sahrawis inside and outside their lands.
The CGTP was represented at the meeting by its President, Luis Villanueva Carvajal, and the Secretary of Information and Communications, Cesar Sopron. (SPA)
