Would you recognize him? From tennis king to retirement from public life
54-year-old Pete Sampras has withdrawn from the public eye after putting down his racket and little is known about his private life.
The former American tennis player Pete Sampras was caught by photographers these days in the Beverly Glen shopping center in Beverly Hills, where he had a coffee at the Starbucks cafe. A lot of attention was attracted by his almost unrecognizable appearance, hidden under his gray hair and beard.
The 54-year-old is still in good shape, but he has always been known for not being interested in the lifestyle of the rich. “Pete has always shied away from all the perks of celebrity status as he’s always considered himself a normal tennis player,” the source said.
After retiring professionally, Sampras has withdrawn from the public eye and little is known about his private life.
Tennis career
Pete Sampras’ enviable career began in 1988 and lasted until his official retirement in August 2003. In a fifteen-year tennis career, he won fourteen Grand Slam tournaments, which was a record at the time of his retirement, and today he ranks third in terms of the number of Grand Slams, behind only Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
He was the leading tennis player in the ATP ranking for six years in a row, between 1993 and 1998. In 2007, he was accepted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
