An intercity passenger bus crashed and burst into flames in western Turkey in the early hours of Sunday morning, killing eight people, including a nine-month-old baby, local media reported.
The crash happened at 1:40 am local time in Denizli province. The Pamukkale Tourism bus was traveling from Izmir to the coastal city of Antalya when it hit the motorway guardrails and caught fire.
The crash killed eight people and injured another 33 passengers. The victims include the 50-year-old bus driver, the baby’s father, and the infant.
There were 41 people on board the bus, including 38 passengers and three crew members.
Images published from the scene after the crash showed the completely gutted, burnt-out shell of the bus on the side of the road.
The incident occurred on the final day of Eid al-Adha, one of the most important religious holidays in the Muslim world. Roads across Turkey are traditionally busy during this period as millions of people travel to visit relatives or go on holiday, frequently leading to a rise in traffic accidents.
