Two men have died in separate road traffic accidents in Central Trinidad within a 24-hour period.
In the first incident, 38-year-old Martin Machikan of Sesame Street, Preysal, was killed in a hit-and-run on Wednesday night.
Police said Machikan was walking along the Preysal Main Road when he was struck by a vehicle. CCTV footage reportedly showed him being dragged and then run over, although the point of impact was not captured. He was pronounced dead at the scene after officers of the Gran Couva Police Station responded around 9 p.m.
Investigations are ongoing.
In a second incident, 47-year-old Francois Baptiste of Ramlal Trace, Chickland Village, Freeport, died after his vehicle collided with a concrete culvert at Three Roads Junction, Mission Road, Freeport.
The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Police said Baptiste was driving a blue Nissan Wingroad, registration PBM3849, when he is believed to have lost control of the vehicle.
He also died on Thursday.
A senior police officer confirmed that investigations are continuing into both fatal crashes.
