On Monday, a departure from Nuuk to Reykjavik had to be canceled due to an acute shortage of personnel in the security control at Nuuk airport.
Greenland Airports confirms to Sermitsiaq that an Icelandair departure from Nuuk Airport was canceled on Monday.
The reason was a lack of staffing in security. Operations director at Greenland Airport Mie Rajcic states this in a written reply to Sermitsiaq:
According to the director of operations, the airport has worked for a long time to strengthen the security staff in Nuuk, and a number of concrete measures have been initiated to ensure stable and sufficient capacity.
– It is therefore with great regret that we have had to cancel the Icelandair flight to Reykjavik from Nuuk on Monday. The reason is an acute lack of manpower in security, which has made it impossible to carry out the security screening of the passengers, says Mie Rajcic.
Will do everything to be ahead of the curve
She emphasizes that the airport regrets the incident:
– We deeply apologize to the affected passengers. We are also fully aware that this is reminiscent of the challenges from last summer, and that is precisely why we are working purposefully to prevent a repeat.
According to the operations director, work is being done on increased recruitment and training as well as support from Copenhagen Airports.
– I can’t promise a summer without bumps in the road. But we do everything to be at the forefront and act quickly when the situation changes – and to minimize the consequences for our passengers. The goal is a robust operation going forward, says the director of operations.
