USA/Cuban artist Leticia Sánchez Toledo presents the exhibition in Cincinnati Docile Metals and Memoryan exhibition that delves into some of the central themes of her recent work: memory, intimate spaces, the construction of female identity and the relationship between image and memory. The opening will take place on June 3, from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, at ANNEX Gallery, and the exhibition will remain open until June 13. The promotional image advances an atmosphere full of domestic evocations and cinematographic resonances, recurring elements in the artist’s work.
Born in Cuba in 1985, Sánchez Toledo graduated in Design from the Higher Institute of Design (ISDI) in Havana. His artistic practice combines pictorial sensitivity with a narrative perspective influenced by cinema and visual memory. Many of his works seem like scenes frozen in time, fragments of stories suggested rather than told, where interiors, silences and human relationships predominate. The artist has developed a sustained investigation into the contemporary female experience, exploring social, cultural and emotional issues through highly psychological compositions.
In recent years he has consolidated an international career with individual and group exhibitions in the United States. Among his most notable projects is Intimate Breaks (2023), presented at Pan American Art Projects, where she explored the complexity of human bonds through scenes full of intimacy and narrative ambiguity. His recent production also includes the series Dark Room and a set of paintings focused on domestic spaces and moments of introspection, characterized by soft lighting and a marked cinematic influence.
The artist has participated in residencies such as the Vermont Studio Center and received a scholarship from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in 2025, one of the most prestigious recognitions for contemporary visual creators. He currently resides and works in Miami, where he continues to develop a work that oscillates between autobiography, fiction and the exploration of individual and collective memory. Docile Metals and Memory is part of this line of research, proposing a reflection on the objects, spaces and memories that shape our experience of the world.
