Authorities in the city of Nurek reported that the probable cause of the fire in a two-story wooden residential building in the village of Langari was an electrical short circuit. As a result of the fire, 16 apartments were completely burned, and 50 residents were left homeless.
The fire started around 15:00 on June 7 and was completely extinguished by the evening of the same day.
A representative of the Nurek city administration told Asia-Plus on June 8 that no one was injured as a result of the incident.
“The fire was extinguished by the evening, but the building, built of wooden structures and in use for many years, was completely burned down. 14 families lived in 16 apartments in this building – about 50 people in total. The affected residents are temporarily housed with their neighbors. Employees of the fire service and the Emergency Situations Committee continue to work on site, and the inspection continues,” the source said.
The exact cause of the fire and the extent of damage are currently being established. According to the source, the most likely cause of the fire was an electrical fault, but he did not provide other details.
A video of the incident went viral on social media yesterday and received widespread response from users.
It should be noted that fires in multi-storey residential buildings, markets and industrial facilities in Tajikistan, especially in large cities, occur quite often.
So, on June 3, a fire occurred in a ten-story residential building in the village of Somoniyon, Rudaki district. As a result of a fire in one of the apartments, its owner suffered damage in the amount of 36.5 thousand somoni. According to the responsible services, the cause of the fire was a pan of food left unattended on an electric stove that was turned on.
